We're in a recession right?

Ok, I haven't blogged in a while because I haven't seen anything worthy of writing about.
Today I saw several things that indicate bad business practices.I walked past a construction site with a door, not a door sitting on the ground, a complete installed door with locks and a doorknob. Someone wrote neatly in sharpie-marker "DOOR" on it. This tells me that at some point someone did NOT know this was a door. We have something in the way of 12% unemployment and a major recession. It was more important to remind some worker what a door is than hire a competent individual. I chuckled and drove on to my destination.

Tonight, after the gym, I visited the Giant supermarket. It was about 5:40pm, I made my way back to the do-it-yourself salad bar to find the guy removing the last ramikan of dressing. I asked him "at what time of day does this salad bar normally close-up-shop?"He said "normally between 7pm and 8pm but I wanted to go home."I took this concern to the manager since I know one of the assistant managers. I indicated to the manager that this was unusual and that I am a consistent customer of his store shopping for my entire family there on a weekly basis. He responded "Sorry to hear that" and then clarified that he had no intention of opening up the salad bar. I mentioned that I am a manager of network engineers and when a resource takes a walk on me, I am still obligated to fulfill the customer's needs or nobody gets paid. This fell on quite deaf ears.
Why is it that the longer I am in business the more bad business I bear witness to?
